3 Unlocking Bootloader And Installing Custom ROM

? Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya ?

Buddy.. You jumped in again.. Lets finish what we started.. This time we are going to Unblock the Bootlocker and Install Custom ROM (Cyanogenmod)..

->We will be doing it in four steps:-

1.  Installing CWM in phone.

2. Unlocking Bootloader.

3. Installing Custom ROM.

4. Installing Google Apps.

I.Installing Clock Work Mode :-

1. Download the CWM install file by clicking on the link below.

    Click - To download CWM RAR File

2.After downloading the CWM RAR file extract it in your C:. Inside this you will find 2 Windows Command Script file. Run the file named " install-cwm1 " 

3.Now take your Rooted Xperia and (make sure USB debugging mode is enabled & has nearly full battery) connect it to the PC with data cable.

4. After connecting your Phone to PC you will see the the CWM is being installed. On successful  completion disconnect your phone and you are good to go to the next step.

II.Unlocking Bootloader :-

1. First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu. In your phone, open the dialer and enter *#*#7378423#*#* to access the service menu.


2. In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says "Yes", then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.


3. On your computer, go to this official of SONY to obtain your KEY:
      Go to SONY site to get your KEY (Only after reading this section) 

4. Read through the information in the pop up window and click Yes, I’m sure if you are still confident you want to unlock the boot loader.


5. Read through and accept the legal terms. Click I Accept.


6. Enter your name, a valid email address and the first 14 digits of your phone’s IMEI or MEID number (remove the last digit if necessary). Click Submit. You can view the IMEI or MEID number by entering *#06# on your phone.

7. The unlock boot loader key will be shown and sent to your email. Save it for later use.

Now go and get your KEY from Sony..... Come back when you have it....

8. Turn off your phone.

9. Hold the menu button at the same time as you connect the phone to the computer with a USB-cable. You will observe the blue LED glow.

10. Go to the platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder.        
       (C:Program FilesAndroidandroid-sdkplatform-tools)

11. Right click anywhere inside the folder by holding down the "left shift" key on the key board.
      You will find a option "Open command window here" (see below). Select that option.

12. Now in the command window enter fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce getvar version, and verify that you get a response (for example version "0.3"). This means your phone is connected properly.

13. Now in the command window enter fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY, where KEY is the unlock boot loader key you got from the Sony. The boot loader should now be successfully unlocked. 

Thats good.. Now we have successfully completed Unlocking the bootloader.

III. Installing Custom ROM with Google Apps :-

1. Download the latest version of CyanogenMod and Google Apps for the device.

        -Click - To download CyanogenMod 9.1.0 Latest Stable Version for Xperia Arc LT15i

        -Click - To download Google Apps Official for Xperia Arc

2. Now switch on your phone and connect it to PC in file transfer mode, copy and place the cm-9.1.0-anzu.zip file and gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip file (which we downloaded) on the SD card. (preferably not inside any folder just put it in the root of SD card like you put something in your pendrive)

3. After completing copying files to Phones SD card unplug it from PC and Switch off the phone.

4. In your PC extract the boot.img (or Click - To download image file)  from the cm-9.1.0-anzu.zip file and copy it to the platform-tools folder of android-SDK (C:Program FilesAndroidandroid-sdkplatform-tools). Dont close this window, Now take the phone.

5. Press & hold the Menu button while connecting the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc to the computer. As before the blue LED glows and hence we can proceed with the flashing of boot.image file.

6. In the folder which we just pasted the boot.image file, open the command terminal (as i told before Left-Shift + Right Mouse button) and run the following command:

           fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img

7. Once it is done then restart your phone from the same comand terminal by typing the following code:

           fastboot -i 0xfce reboot

8. Your phone reboots with the display saying "FREE XPERIA" (like the picture i have put above) 

while the device is rebooting press the Volume Rockers (press down volume button continuously)  a few times to boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.

9. Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery (Unplug the phone from PC, as i warned before phone should be nearly full charged) , use the side Volume Rocker to move around (up and down). Use back button to go back and menu button to select. We are using buttons because the touch screen will not work.  

10. Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset. After you finish wiping all data. Go back to main menu.

11. Then select the option to Wipe cache partition. After you finish wiping all data. Go back to main menu.

12. Select Install zip from sdcard.

12. Select Choose zip from sdcard.

13. Select the cm-9.1.0-anzu.zip. You must see a animation and the files will be installed. ( hollow droid chest getting a blue glow)

14. Once the installation has finished, select +++++Go Back+++++(or simply press back button) to get back to the main menu. Hey pal we just completed installing Cyanogenmod 9.1 successfully =)

15. Now we are going to install google apps the same way. From the main menu -> select Install zip from sdcard.

16. Select Choose zip from sdcard.

17. Select the gapps-ics-20120317-signed.zip. You will see the package getting installed. Buddy we just finished installing google apps =)
